A College Experience for Students with Hearing Loss

iTransition College Camp is sponsored by PEPNet (Postsecondary Education Programs Network) and with assistance from other agencies, including the Cauley Foundation, AR Association for the Deaf, AR Children's Hospital, AR School f/t Deaf, Sprint/AR Relay Services, AR Rehab Services., and AR Department of Education, Special Education.

The TRANSITION TO COLLEGE is a challenge for any student. For students who are deaf and hard of hearing and need accommodations to access services and programs, the transition can be even more challenging.

What is iTransition College Camp?

• A true-to-life college experience in which students learn how to function in a real college environment.
  
• Students will learn to develop and implement appropriate postsecondary transition plans.
  
• iTransition College Camp will increase students’ knowledge of accommodations, assistive technologies, leadership skills, and other exciting aspects of college life. The program is open to students from ages 16 to graduating seniors who reside in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, Mississippi and Oklahoma.

At iTransition College Camp, Students will:

• Participate in workshops covering topics such as self advocacy, transitioning, assistive technologies, and college survival skills
  
• Interact with other students who are deaf and hard of hearing
  
• Spend four days on a college campus
  
• Participate in fun social activities in the Little Rock area
  
• Develop an individualized, online e-portfolio to aid them in postsecondary transition

Parents Invited!

Parents are invited to attend iTransition College Camp Closing Program on Saturday, July 11, 2009 with their students. It is an opportunity for parents to acquire valuable transition information and learn about their child’s College Camp experience.  Please indicate on the application if parents plan to attend.
