Ernest Northup


Ernest was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Ernest attended and graduated from the Arkansas School for the Deaf.

In 1975, Ernest began his career with the United Parcel Services in the Accounting Department. In 2004, he retired from UPS after 29 years of service. During his time with UPS, Ernest was honored with the prestigious UPS International Community Service Award after competing with over 128,000 nominations worldwide.

For many years, Ernest has been involved with the Little Rock Deaf Community throu gh the following organizations: Little Rock Association of the Deaf (LRAD), Arkansas Association of the Deaf (AAD), ASD Booster Club, and the NAD Executive Board. At one time, Ernest was appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve on the Arkansas Deaf and Hearing Impaired Telecommunications Board and several other committees of different organizations.

During his free time, Ernest enjoys going on missionary trips to the Honduras with New Life Deaf Ministry helping the Happy Hands School for the Deaf. Ernest also teaches community sign language classes and does substitute teaching at ASD if needed. Currently, Ernest is working as ASD Athletic Director, a position he has held since September 2015.

Ernest attends both Fellowship Bible Church and Geyer Springs Baptist Church. He is the proud parent of five daughters and five grandchildren.
